Excerpt:“Mark was also a talented colorist, with an unexpected instinct for unusual combinations that achieved visual effects. Sometimes these effects were subtle, but most of the time, such as in this work, she played with the bold and exhilarating contrast of bright red with complementary green brushstrokes. The vertical composition - most of Mark’s paintings are verticals - also creates movement and dynamism throughout.”These website upgrades will help you gain a deeper understanding of the artist and her work. #LibbieMark, known for her 1960s #AbstractExpressi #LibbieMark, known for her 1960s #AbstractExpressionist #CollagePainting technique, usually titled her works using dates and sequential numbers (No. 67-6, No. 64-5, etc). She did make a few exceptions in subject and name, some of which are very personal pieces. In this case, here are two earlier artworks that commemorate the birth grandchildren, her first and second. Despite the personal nature of the inspiration, these pieces still show stylistic features reflected in Mark’s other works from the 1950s, such as a dynamic, vertical composition, strong black graphic lines, and the utilization of the texture of the paper as a design element.
