This Abstract Expressionist painting was one of over thirty works exhibited in Mark's only solo show documented during her lifetime: Libbie Mark: Paintings and Collages, May 15–June 9, 1962 at Knapik Gallery, New York, NY. The piece features artist and work info labels on verso, and is listed in the surviving pricelist for the show. Relatively small in size, it is mounted on Masonite, both aspects typical of Mark's works from the early 1960s. The New York Journal American newspaper review of Knapik exhibition described this work as a "red-blue Oriental 'garden'." Demonstrating Mark's great sense of color, her primary choices of red, yellow and blue pop against the neutral collaged paper tones of browns and rusts in the background.
Collage Painting #20 was exhibited in Mark's first posthumous solo gallery show at Berry Campbell, New York, NY: Libbie Mark: Collage Paintings (1950s–1960s), May 23–June 22, 2024. The exhibition catalogue for this show contains 9 vivid full-color reproductions and is available online, and at Berry Campbell.
